frequently asked questions

How do I become a member of the Future Residency Program?
This program requires a $1,000 deposit by you that assigns you a priority number based on the date of the deposit. We will call and offer you an apartment in the order of priority. You may refuse an apartment without penalty and your priority will not change. If you wish to move to Westminster-Canterbury you will need to have your name on the Future Residency Priority waiting list.

How do I become a resident?
Choose your residence, make a $1000.00 Reservation Deposit or transfer your Future Residency deposit and complete the application forms for residency. Westminster-Canterbury will review your application for residency. After the review and approval of your application, your Residence and Service Agreement and a 10% deposit (less a credit for the &1,000 Deposit) will be due. Occupancy should take place within 90 days following payment of the 10% deposit.

What’s the next step?
Contact Westminster-Canterbury by telephone, mail or e-mail. Or for your convenience, just click on “Contact Us.”

What other services are available at additional cost?
Westminster-Canterbury offers additional meals as well as housekeeping, guest meals, personal laundry and dry cleaning, valet parking and private transportation, internet access, in-home home nursing services, personal fitness training, catering for special resident parties and other appropriate concierge-type at an additional fee.

May I furnish and decorate my apartment?
At Westminster-Canterbury, you furnish and decorate your residence to reflect your own personal tastes. Of course, structural changes or additions beyond standard features must be approved b the community’s management and are the financial responsibility of the resident.

Who makes the decision to transfer residents to Health Care Center?
A resident will be transferred to health care or another residence within the community only after consulting with the resident, their personal physician and a member of the family or designated representative (as the extent practical). Our determination is based upon the resident’s physical and mental health and ability to live independently.

In the event of such a transfer, would the resident be asked to give up his/her residence?
Many stays in our Health Care Center are temporary. Westminster-Canterbury’s policies are designed to enable our residents to remain in their residence as long as it is in the best interest of the safety and well being of both the resident and the community. Only when a resident transfers is the apartment returned to the community.

Where do I go if I need hospital care?
You may receive excellent hospital care at any hospital of your choice. Those nearest to Westminster-Canterbury include Sentara Leigh, Sentara Virginia Beach General and Sentara Bayside Hospitals.

What kinds of spiritual enrichment are offered to residents?
Residents’ spiritual well-being and nurturing is very important. While Westminster-Canterbury is committed to the principle of Christian values, it also recognizes and acknowledges the spiritual enrichment of each resident to be an individual choice and welcomes residents of all faiths. The community has an active chaplaincy program with a full time chaplain and visiting pastors offering worship services. Westminster-Canterbury’s chaplain also conducts bible study programs with the help of volunteers.

What if my finances concern me? Will I ever have to leave?
No. Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay has a very active and healthy Foundation, whose primary purpose is to raise funds for and provide Fellowship Assistance to a certain number of qualified individuals. Because of the church’s original mission of care and concern, several residents receive assistance with entrance fees or help with monthly fees and no one will ever have to leave because of a financial concern. If you are interested in obtaining confidential information about our Fellowship Program, contact the Marketing Department at 800-349-1722 or 757-496-1785.

Is there a Resident’s Association?
Yes, the Westminster-Canterbury on the Chesapeake Bay Resident’s Association is an active, integral part of the community. It is instrumental in planning and interacting with the community’s management on the many facets of community life. Resident committees include health and fitness, food building and grounds, finance and welcoming. The Association meets twice each year, and they elect officers annually. The Resident Council meets monthly.
