Vocational Wellness is the ability to engage effectively in the work to which one is committed. Work means
different things to us depending on our age and situation. For the child, work is school; for the mother it
is the care and development of children and the management of the home. Careers define work for most adults
in their middle years. For older individuals, work includes the learning and practice of new roles,
including the maintenance of family relationships, and personal and financial health. Vocational wellness
involves making use of gifts, skills and talents in order to find enrichment and achieve purpose and happiness
in life. It includes the learning of new information and the practice of new skills in order to maintain
independence and the lifestyle which best suits the individual.
