More Than Wellness: Wellness For Life.

Discover new dimensions of wellness in Virginia Beach senior living.

Life is about so much more than just getting through another day. For seniors who truly care about well-being, it’s also about finding new ways to feel fulfilled, socially, spiritually, intellectually, vocationally, emotionally and physically. The Wellness for Life program at Westminster-Canterbury in Virginia Beach integrates and balances these six dimensions in the most embracing and comforting ways.

Please explore these healthy, encouraging paths that are all part of our Wellness for Life program.

  • Animated Arrow for QuestionsSpiritual Wellness:

The ability to maintain a deep appreciation of your life, your destiny, and the natural personality that's part of your journey, through such paths as study, worship, volunteerism, music, exercise, and personal reflection.

Experience how Westminster-Canterbury supports spiritual wellness with our podcast - listen to sermons and teachings from the Reverend Doug Gray, our Senior Chaplain, recorded at Holy Trinity Chapel at Westminster-Canterbury, right on your computer or smartphone! Recent messages include teachings and sermons from Ephesians (a Sunday series entitled "In Christ"), Acts and the book of Revelation. Enjoy! Click here to view podcast.

  • Animated Arrow for QuestionsVocational Wellness:

The ability to engage unconditionally in the work to which you are or decide to be devoted, whether it’s supporting the family or learning new roles and skills for a new stage in life, through such paths as community ambassadorship, club leadership, and mentoring.

  • Animated Arrow for QuestionsIntellectual Wellness:

The ability to maintain intellectual engagement and brain health through lifelong learning and the active pursuit of knowledge. Paths include computer instruction, reading, research and writing, musical concerts, museum tours, discussions and more.

To expand opportunities for intellectual engagement, we’ve partnered with Virginia Wesleyan University to form the Westminster-Canterbury Lifelong Learning Institute. The partnership allows residents to audit select classes at VWU for free, and attend cultural and sporting events at no charge. (If the NCAA requires that students pay a fee for sports playoff tickets, residents will pay the same fee.) In addition, 64 mini-courses will be offered each year at Westminster-Canterbury, coordinated by a VWU professor.

  • Animated Arrow for QuestionsEmotional Wellness:

The ability to feel positive about ourselves through the open expression of emotions and the freedom to love and be loved. Pathways include resident support groups, Yoga and Tai Chi, reminiscence groups, and counseling.

  • Animated Arrow for QuestionsPhysical Wellness:

The ability to make personal choices that result in the development and maintenance of healthy bodies, with the flexibility, energy, and strength to perform and enjoy all daily activities. Paths include education, regular check-ups, and the availability of healthy nutritional choices.

  • Animated Arrow for QuestionsSocial Wellness:

The ability to take responsibility for the events in our lives and to maintain positive, productive relationships with others, through such events as birthday and holiday celebrations, club participation, dining with neighbors, and more.
